Rochambeau Chapter - Membership

As of January 1, 2009, the Rochambeau Chapter  counts 157 members residing in France, in Europe, in the United States, and in other parts of the world.

General conditions of admission:

As an affiliated association of the NSDAR, the Rochambeau Chapter applies the rules and procedures defined by the headquarters in Washington, DC.  Detailed information is available on the NSDAR web site at http://www.dar.org/.

Any woman is eligible for membership in the National Society of the American Revolution who is not less than 18 years of age and is descended from a man or woman who, with unfailing loyalty to the cause of American Independence, served as a sailor or a soldier or civil officer in the several Colonies or States, or in the United Colonies or States, or is a recognized patriot, or rendered material aid thereto.

Membership application procedure :

  1. Prospective members should first make a formal written request to the attention of the Rochambeau Chapter Regent.  Such written requests should be sent, for forwarding, to the chapter Registrar :  membership@darfrance.org

  2. The prospective member request is then reviewed and voted on by the chapter Board members.

  3. Under the guidance of the chapter Registrar, the prospective member gathers together all necessary information to complete the NSDAR application file, including copies of historical documents proving direct affiliation to the ancestor.

  4. The candidate is invited to present herself to chapter members at a regular chapter meeting.

  5. At a subsequent chapter meeting, the candidate is submitted to a formal vote, by written, secret ballot.

  6. The application is finalized by the Registrar who then forwards it to the chapter Treasurer, for mailing to the NSDAR in Washington, D.C.; the NSDAR is ultimately responsible for final review, approval, and processing of the application.

  7. The chapter Registrar is advised by the NSDAR when the new member application has been approved; a permanent official NSDAR number is assigned.

  8. The Treasurer addresses a membership card and dues receipt to the new member.

Associate membership :

Associate membership is open to all interested active members of the NSDAR.

In 2009, the Rochambeau Chapter is proud to have over seventy associate members, mostly from the United States, but also from Canada, from Mexico, and from other countries in Europe.

Enquiries concerning associate membership applications should be addressed to: info@darfrance.org.
