Rochambeau Chapter - FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: How do I find out if I am eligible for membership in the Rochambeau Chapter?
A: As an affiliated association of the NSDAR, the Rochambeau Chapter applies the rules and procedures defined by the headquarters in Washington, DC.  Full details are available on the NSDAR web site at http://www.dar.org. See the page concerning Membership.
Send a written request for membership to the Chapter Regent c/o the Chapter Registrar. membership@darfrance.org

If your mother or father, or antecedent in a previous generation, is or was a member of the DAR or the SAR, you are probably eligible. Some documentation rules have changed that render great-grandmothers’ membership, for example, less certain than it once was. The first step is to identify a qualifying ancestor, and then prove the generational links in between.

Q: What does the Rochambeau Chapter do?
A: See the Activities page for specific information, and the Who We Are page for general themes of interest.

Q: How often, and where, does the Rochambeau Chapter meet?
A: The Rochambeau Chapter holds at least four scheduled meetings a year, including the annual general assembly. Meetings are held in the homes of members or in public facilities in the Paris area.

Following each business meeting, guest speakers are generally invited to give informal talks on a variety of themes of an historical, educational, or cultural nature in the scope of the main NSDAR objectives.  Informal discussions continue during the reception that follows.

In addition, an annual dinner or lunch is held each year for members.
The chapter board also organizes yearly receptions for new members.

Q: Why should I join the chapter?
A: Membership in the Rochambeau Chapter provides a unique opportunity for bi-cultural exchange between its French and American members who share a common interest in the American War of Independence, genealogical research, as well as specific educational and cultural projects relating to 18th century history.

Members represent all age-groups and this makes for a lively exchange of views in a friendly environment.
